Layer Black & White Cake
Living alone in London while I go to uni is awesome, ok. Only problem is, I rarely bake really fancy cakes or desserts as I don’t have a lot of people to share them with apart from my wonderful flatmates (whom I consider as sisters btw 💜). Anyway, it was one of my flatmate’s 20th birthday and so I prepared a layer cake. I even cut the cakes in two and didn’t break them. Hallelujah, praise the Lord!
Ingredients (brown cake)
- 120 g of flour
- 1.5tsp of baking powder
- 100g of granulated sugar
- 50g of butter
- 100g of milk chocolate
- 1 tbsp of cocoa powder
- 0.5 tbsp coffee/espresso powder
- 2 medium beaten eggs
Â
Ingredients (white cake)
- 120 g of flour
- 1.5tsp of baking powder
- 100g of granulated sugar
- 50g of butter
- -10 ml (~1tsp) of vanilla extract
- 100g of white chocolate
- 2 medium beaten eggs
Â
Chocolate glaze
I didn’t really measure out. I mixed about 400g of heavy cream with 400g of milk chocolate, brought to boil, and then I let it thicken (putting in a fridge can help). Thr key is to put the same quantity of chocolate and heavy cream, half half. I ended up with way more than needed, so you may save that for later on 🙂

Methods
- Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl
- Soften the butter with the chocolate in the microwave so that you get a liquid mixture
- Mix the butter and chocolate with the wet ingredients in another bowl
- Mix the dry and wet ingredients
- Bake at 180•C in a preheated oven fot about 30 min. I’d highly recommend to check on your cake every 10 min as ovens are all different. This way you can adapt the time or temperature accordingly.
- Once both cakes ar ready, cut in half and alternate layera of different colors. In between, put the glaze. When finished, cover the whole cake with a layer of glaze and decorate as you wish or leave it like that.
