Naans (with Baking Powder)

I absolutely love indian food, and especially naans. Naans are flat breads which are baked on a pan, and due to the oil and/or butter they’re soft. What I like is there’s no oven needed, so it’s less trouble. People are usually afraid to make the dough – they shouldn’t ! The secret is to put a generous amount of flour and gradually  add the milk while mixing. Working the dough toroughly also helps make it softer. Trust me, naans are worth the mess.
[recipe title="Naans (with Baking Powder)" servings="4" time="40 min" difficulty="medium" description="An indian pan bread, naan is perfect to eat warm with curry or on its own with some butter"]

[recipe-ingredients]
– 1 + 1/2 cup flour
– 1/2 tsp baking powder
– 1/4 to 1/2 tsp salt (adjust depending on taste)
– 2 tbsp vegetable oil
– 1 tbsp softened butter
– 1/3 cup milk
– some oil for greasing
– some butter
[/recipe-ingredients]
[recipe-directions]
1. In a bowl, mix the flour and the baking powder
2. Add the oil and the softened butter
3. Gradually add the milk to make a soft and non-sticky dough
4. Cover and place in a warm place (microwave or oven with the lights turned on) for 15 min
5. Divide the dough in 4 and flatten the balls to make 4 medium naans
6. Spread some butter on each side and bake on a previously greased pan for about 3 min on low heat on each side. Cover the pan so that the humidity stays inside. That would make the naans softer.
7. To serve, you can add some olive oil or butter and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top
